Hampta Pass Trek Best Time To Visit
The best time to visit the beautiful Hampta Pass Trek is from mid-June to mid-October. You can visit the Trek in other seasons and see the trek offer something new with each changing season.
Mid June To July
This is the season of snow covered trails. The plains of India during these months suffer from scorching heat waves but the mountains are covered in chilling snow, providing a perfect getaway destination. You will find patches of snow next to and on the trail, the weather will be chilly and cold along with this you will find Himalayan peaks in the distance covered in sheets of stark white snow.
August to Mid- September
These are the months of the monsoon where the sky is filled with black clouds and light to heavy rain drizzles constantly. The scenery is filled with low drifting white clouds and mist giving it all an eerie feel, like a gothic novel. For a moment during the trek you might see the clouds drifting away and revealing the snow capped peaks behind. Waterfalls gushing with water and everywhere you see you find the striking greenery covering up the mountain sides. This is in contrast to the Spiti Valley that doesn’t see any rain, making the crossing over experience even more dramatic.
Mid- September to Mid- October
This is considered by many to be the best time to visit the Hampta Pass. You find the clear and crisp skies of the post monsoon month. The sweet fragrance of the Autumn air and the colors of wildflowers spread on the green carpet of alpine meadows. The trail during these months is dry and safe to walk on making this month the best to navigate the trek. Fantastic visibility is also one of the biggest pros of these months because of which the peaks far away are clearly visible shining in the sunlit sky.
Seasons To Avoid
Heavy snowfall during the months between Mid October and Mid June blocks the Hampta Pass and makes it difficult to trek to. The lower part of the trail may be accessible but as you go higher the snow becomes more dense and the temperature starts to drop down. This makes it not only difficult but also dangerous to trek during this season as the cold temperature can also cause frostbite.
