Offering the widest expanse of snowscape in Uttarakhand, Dayara Bugyal is a perfect picture of the Himalayan winters. This short trek spanning over four days remains true to its name- a Bugyal, i.e. ‘meadows’. This alpine field, that remains carpeted with wildflowers in the summer, turns into the most expansive field of snow in the winters, spread as far as your eyes can see. The reason Dayara Bugyal is so breathtakingly beautiful is because of its location. The meadow is at an elevation of over 10,000 feet. From Dayara, you can see the Greater Himalayan range in all its beauty. The majestic summits of the Gangotri range, including Bandarpunch, Kala Nag, Srikanth, Jaonli, and Draupadi Ka Danda, are so close that you can almost touch them. Trekkers spend hours just watching the sunset over these mountains.
The meadow is famous for its alpine flowers, which bloom in a riot of colours during the summer. The most common flowers include Himalayan blue poppies, daisies, and primroses.
The oak and rhododendron forests that surround the meadow are a beautiful contrast to the snow-covered mountains. The trek is home to several species of birds, including the Himalayan monal, the state bird of Uttarakhand.
The Dayara Bugyal trek is a favourite among our beginner and seasoned trekkers alike at Himalayan Daredevils. “This trek is superbly rewarding at any time of the year"
The trekkers will be picked up from Dehradun Railway Station at 7.00 a.m. from where the journey will begin. Dehradun is well connected with Delhi through railway and road route. Overnight Buses and Trains are available. A 180 km road ride to Raithal Village from Dehradun Via Chinyalisaur and Uttarkashi travelling across the river Bhagirathi, the main source of River Ganga. Breakfast and lunch during the travel will be provided in the road side inns. The cost of the meals during the travel will be paid by the individual. Arrival at Raithal village, a small village located 40 km from the city of Uttarkashi which serves as the starting point of the trek. Stay at the homestay in Raithal village. A quick introduction & briefing session with the trek leader and fellow trekkers. Dinner and rest at the homestay.
Post a filling breakfast, we begin our trek from Raithal village towards our camp in the vicinity of Gui Lake. The trail initially runs through an alley bordered by terraced farms and golden paddy fields with a local stream accompanying them. An hour in, we deep dive into a thick forest stretch lined up with pinewood and oaks. The trees form a dense cover over us, leaving us with a sense of being in the wilderness, far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. A mesmerizing view of Mt. Srikanth, Mt. Bandarpoonch and DraupadikaDaanda peaks are visible through this scenic spot. On a good sunny day, one can see the whole panorama of Garhwal Himalayas right from Gangotri to Mt. Jaonli from these vast grounds. The elevation we gain today is about 848M. Once the campsite is ready, we have our lunch and then get ready to visit the jade coloured Gui Lake. The winter temperatures near the lake make the water body completely frozen, even during daytimes. After spending some time around the lake and surrounding clearings, we make our way back to the campsite. The sunset views from this campsite are a highlight not to be missed! We spend the rest of the evening enjoying hot snacks followed by an early dinner.
The trek from Gui Camp to the summit of Dayara Bugyal, which stands at an elevation of approximately 12,645 feet (3,855 meters), offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan landscape and alpine meadows. Wide grounds shimmering with silver white snow can be seen in all their glory! Treading through these meadows, the panoramic view of prominent Garhwal Himalayas-Bakariya Top, Black Peak, Bandarpoonch, Mt. Srikanth, DraupadikaDaanda, Mt. Jaunli appear more alluring for their beauty and grandeur with each step forward. We spend some time at the summit appreciating the spellbinding view from the top. Replenishing our energy with some snacks. After spending some time at the summit and soaking in the panoramic views, you’ll descend back to Gui Camp following the same trail in reverse. The descent allows you to appreciate the scenery from a different perspective and provides an opportunity to rest and rejuvenate after the challenging ascent. Upon reaching Gui Camp, you can relax and unwind, reflecting on the memorable experience of trekking to the summit of Dayara Bugyal.
The trek from Gui Camp to Raithal Village is relatively short, covering a distance of approximately 5 kilometers and typically taking around 3 to 4 hours to complete. After completing the trek, you’ll drive back to Dehradun.

The distance from the Dehradun Bus Stand (ISBT) to the Railway Station is 6 km, without traffic, it will take 15 minutes.
Note
Options to reach Dehradun
1. Take an overnight train/bus to Dehradun, and then take a cab to the pickup point.
We always recommend to go for the govt buses over the private ones outside the bus station as based on the experience we have found that there are very high chances of delay involved with private buses. Also, govt. buses are always more reliable. Whichever bus you choose, just make sure to reach Dehradun at least by 06:30 am positively.
2. Take flight to Dehradun airport (Jolly Grant Airport) (25 km, 50 min), if coming by flight then come one day early.
If you prefer to travel independently, you can either take a government bus or book a private cab.
