To do this trek comfortably, you must be able to cover 5 km in under 35 minutes. This is the minimum fitness required for this trek.
This trek requires at least 6-8 weeks of preparation. The longer, the better. So plan your trek soon and start preparing.

The difficulty level of Gaumukh Trek ranges from moderate to difficult and therefore is not recommended for first timers. There are tricky glacier sections to be crossed in addition to steep climbs. Irrespective of your prior experience, it is essential that you be very fit and well prepared for the trek.
Yes the trek is safe but needs guidance and assistance from an experienced team. There are certain sections which are risky. You may witness certain rockfall zones on the way. The best way to minimise these risks is taking assistance from an experienced team.
Start running/walking at least 3-4 Kms everyday.
As there are no permanent toilets on the trek, we carry toilet tents which are dry toilets so you need to carry toilet tissue paper with you.
