In a world full of copies and crowded tourist spots, we stand apart as your authentic guide to the heart of Uttarakhand, where adventure seekers get lost to find themselves.

Exploring the Valley of Flowers National Park

Nestled in the Western Himalayas of Uttarakhand, the Valley of Flowers National Park is a hidden paradise for nature lovers and trekkers. Situated at a breathtaking altitude of 3,658 meters in the serene Bhyundar Valley of Chamoli district, Garhwal, this enchanted valley covers 87 square kilometers. It boasts cascading waterfalls, lush meadows, shimmering glaciers, and a dazzling array of alpine flowers.

This incredible place remained a well-kept secret until 1931 when mountaineer Frank S Smythe stumbled upon it and rightfully named it the Valley of Flowers. Fast forward to 1982, it earned the status of a National Park and a place on UNESCO's prestigious list of World Heritage Sites in 2005.

The Valley of Flowers Trek is a true masterpiece of nature, transforming with the seasons. As the sun sets, the landscape becomes magical, with rolling meadows, emerald mountains, and rare flowers like Cobra Lily, Brahma Kamal, and Blue Poppy. It's also a habitat for fascinating wildlife such as snow leopards, musk deer, and red foxes.

The Best Time to Visit the Valley of Flowers

For the most breathtaking experience, plan your visit during the monsoon season, which runs from July to September. This is when the valley bursts into full bloom after the monsoon showers. It's not just about the beauty; it's also steeped in Hindu mythology. Legend has it that Lord Hanuman found the life-saving herb, Sanjeevani, in this valley to save Lakshman in The Ramayana. Local tales even suggest that gods and fairies once dwelled here.

The Valley of Flowers National Park offers various activities, including treks that take you closer to serene waterfalls, pristine landscapes, dense forests of oak and pine trees, and the stunning variety of flowers that are unique to this place. It's also a spiritual journey for devotees who can trek to the renowned Sikh shrine in Uttarakhand, Hemkund Sahib, and explore villages like Ghangaria and Bhyundar.

Departure towards Hemkund Sahib Yatra

But the adventure doesn't stop at the Valley of Flowers. It continues with the Hemkund Sahib trek, located in the Nanda Devi Biosphere. This trek winds through dense pine and oak forests, alpine meadows, and babbling streams. Visiting Hemkund Sahib is an experience in itself. It's a challenging uphill trek from Ghangaria, covering a distance of 6 kilometers that takes about 6 to 7 hours to complete.

To begin your Hemkund Sahib adventure, start from Rishikesh or Haridwar. It's a long but scenic 9 to 10-hour drive to Govindghat, which sits at an altitude of 1900 meters. Spend the night in a hotel either in Joshimath or Govindghat. From Govindghat, trek to Ghangaria village, situated at an elevation of 3049 meters, 13 kilometers from Govindghat.

From Ghangaria, the path splits into two—one leading to the Valley of Flowers and the other to Hemkund Sahib. The trek to Hemkund Sahib is challenging, with steep ascents and an altitude of 4633 meters. However, the mesmerizing scenery and the pristine Hemkund Lake make the journey worthwhile.

Where to Stay

While the Valley of Flowers is a paradise for wildlife and nature enthusiasts, there are no overnight accommodations due to the high altitude and thin oxygen levels. For a comfortable stay, trekkers return to Ghangaria village, the trek's base camp.

Ghangaria offers private lodges and hotels, ensuring you have a cozy place to rest after a day of exploration. For a unique experience, consider staying in the rooms provided by the Gurudwara in Hemkund, where you'll immerse yourself in a spiritual ambiance of constant prayers and hymns.

The Valley of Flowers Trek itself doesn't have dining options, but Ghangaria boasts restaurants serving Chinese, Garhwali, and Punjabi dishes, allowing you to savor diverse cuisines.

This trek offers an unparalleled experience, a chance to witness Nature's wonders found nowhere else in the country. The Brahma Kamal, a late-night flower that blooms only once a year, adds to the valley's mystique. The Valley of Flowers in Chamoli, with its Alpine flowers and unique flora and fauna, truly stands as a wonder of wonders. Don't miss your chance to explore this incredible destination with Himalayan Daredevils.
