Overview


Sarutal Trek is a hidden gem in the Himalayas because it is a serene Lake hiding amid meadows at a height of 4,200 meters in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarkashi like many other treks, Sarutal was also explored by the shepherds in search of grasslands and the Sarutal Lake is located amid meadows surrounded by high peaks. Therefore, its picturesque setting and surroundings attract many trekkers every year.

Itinerary


    Himalayan Daredevils organizes transport for trekkers from Dehradun Railway Station in the morning which will leave for Khanyasni camp around 6:00 am to 7:00 am. During the journey there will be half an hour, stop at kempty fall. Have breakfast there and witness amazing views. The break will be of maximum 1 hour. Ahead the peaks are visible and further you will come close to holy Yamuna River. If you want, then take a short break of 20 minutes and enjoy being around it. Reach Mori and after 1 hour you will come across a check post Naitwar. Reach check post Naitwar. They will ask for Aadhar cards and some other details. Ahead lies Sankri, enjoy the drive and the wait is soon going to be over. Reach trekkers paradise and the main market of Sankri. Go to hotel Mountain View, freshen up and enjoy evening snacks in the open terrace with great views. You will be provided some details after which you can go for evening walk but be at the hotel for dinner. Enjoy delicious dinner and spend comfortable night in the mountains.

    Today, the heartwarming morning is eagerly waiting for you to wake up. Feel the peace amid the mountains; no connectivity and no materialistic thing is here to disturb you, the only thing is peace. Relish the hot cup of coffee/tea at 6:00 am and get ready for your breakfast at 7:30 am. You have to strictly leave at 8:30 am after the instructions of your guide. The trek starts from Sankri to Kedarkantha base camp which is 8 km away. After a little walk from the main market witness Swargarohini peaks (I, II, III) which will mesmerize you. After 20 minutes of hike the beautiful Saur village will come into sight, all the houses there are made of wood. Here are home stays which serve delicious organic local food. Some names of the local places are – Goteka, Boiroka ligudiya, Posla, Jainola, Kuwamohli and then Juda Ka Talab. And Reach Kedarkantha base camp Move further through pine forest and reach your campsite from where the Kedarkantha peak shines tall and relish the great views! Afterwards enjoy hot lunch. Have evening tea/coffee, snacks, soup and explore the area. Dinner will be served after which you can rest for the night.
    Today is the main day of your trek, so be ready at 4:30 am in the morning to witness sunrise from Kedarkantha summit. Nothing can be better than watching rising sun from the summit because then the views are jaw dropping. Whoever watches it gets mesmerized. Light breakfast will be served at 4:30 am then the trek with start. It is important to use headlamps. Trekking in dark is really fun but only with professional guides. Soon you will reach just below the Kedarkantha summit. The ascent to top is 1.5 km long but the efforts will be worth. Move ahead with everyone and the soft sunrays will fill your heart with joy. When the sun is about to rise, reach the top (3800 m) and capture some of the best moments of your life. There is the temple of Lord Shiva and Ganesha, seek their blessings and get awe struck by the panorama views of stunning Himalayan peaks. Spend good time with your group and after an hour get ready for the follow Dunda Thach trail reach evening camp enjoying the nigh here.
    Have breakfast and head to Taloti Thach. On the way, you will come across a temple of Lord Shiva, Parvat and Ganesha. The distance to be covered is probably 11 km, there are few steep sections cross them and reach your campsite. Because Taloti Thach is a lavish meadow with beautiful surroundings and amazing views of Himalayan peaks. So, Set up your camps and after having delicious food retire for the night.
    Today, the trek is a mixture of ascents and leveled walks. Cross several meadows and ridges to reach the pristine Saru Tal. Above all Saru Tal is a unique glacial lake amidst meadows in the picturesque surroundings. The Black Peak, Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini (I) (II) (III), Bali pass Trail, Dhaldhar kandi pass are clearly visible from there. So This trail further goes to Fachu Kandi Pass. Set up your camps near Sarutal Lake, enjoy the panorama views and relax for the night.
    Post breakfast; retrace your steps through meadows and ridges. Reach Taloti camp and retire for the night.
    Today you will get back to Sankri but via Taluka. Descent till Taluka is easy but is careful while coming downhills because most of the people get their ankles twisted. Hence We Enter in a thick forest the trails are very confusing so follow your guide. Also, The Langoors are easily spotted here hanging from trees to trees. After a short trek, come across a village and you can see there are cows and goats at every house. Therefore Reach Taluka after half an hour, it is a village with some shops. The vehicle will be arranged from here to reach Sankri and the arrangements will be made in a hotel there.
    Finally, It’s your last breakfast on this trek with the Himalayan Daredevils team.

What to carry


1.Trekking shoes: A good pair of trekking shoes is essential for a comfortable and safe trek. Look for shoes that are sturdy, provide good ankle support, and have a good grip on different types of terrain.

2. Backpack with rain cover (50-60): A backpack is necessary to carry all your gear. Make sure it's the right size for your trek, and comes with a rain cover to keep your belongings dry in case of rain.

3. Thermals (upper and lower): Thermals are lightweight and comfortable base layers that help regulate your body temperature in cold weather. Bring both upper and lower thermals to keep warm.

4. 3 T-shirts (advisable quick dry): Choose quick-drying T-shirts made from breathable and moisture-wicking materials. This will help keep you cool and dry during your trek.

5. 2 trek pants: Choose lightweight and comfortable trek pants that are easy to move in and can dry quickly if wet.

6. Jacket (-10 degree): A warm jacket is essential for cold weather. Choose a jacket that is waterproof and windproof, and provides good insulation.

7. Fleece or hood (2): Fleece jackets or hoodies are great mid-layer options to keep warm. Bring at least two, as they can also be used as an extra layer at night.

8. Sunglasses (UV protected): Protect your eyes from the sun's harmful UV rays with sunglasses that are designed for outdoor activities.

9. Sun cap: A sun cap or hat with a brim will protect your face and neck from the sun.

10. Hand gloves: Bring a pair of lightweight gloves to keep your hands warm and protected from wind and sunburn.

11. Woolen cap: A woolen cap will keep your head and ears warm at night or in cold weather.

12. Socks (3 pairs min): Bring at least three pairs of good quality socks that are moisture-wicking and provide good cushioning and support for your feet.

13. Headlamp: A headlamp will come in handy if you're hiking in low-light conditions or need to find your way in the dark.

14. Trekking pole (if needed): Trekking poles can help reduce strain on your legs and provide additional support on steep terrain.

15. Rain cover / poncho: A rain cover or poncho will keep you and your gear dry during unexpected rain showers.

16. Day pack (if you plan to offload your bag): If you plan to offload your backpack during the trek, bring a smaller day pack to carry essentials like water, snacks, and a first aid kit.

17. A toiletry kit: Bring a small kit with personal hygiene items, such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper.

18. Lunchbox, cup, spoon: If you plan to bring your own food, bring a lunchbox, cup, and spoon to carry and eat your meals.

19. 2 one liter bottles: Staying hydrated is crucial, so bring at least two one-liter bottles to carry water.

20. 2-3 plastic covers to keep your wet or used clothes: Plastic bags are useful for keeping wet or dirty clothes separate from the rest of your belongings. They can also be used to pack out any trash or waste you generate during the trek.

How to reach


Dehradun is well-connected by road, rail, and air. Depending on your location, you can choose one of these options to reach Dehradun:

By Air: You can take a flight to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is the nearest airport. From there, you can continue your journey to Sankri by road.

By Train: Dehradun has a railway station, and you can take a train to Dehradun Railway Station. Many trains connect major cities to Dehradun.

By Road: You can also reach Dehradun by road. Several buses operate from nearby cities like Delhi, Haridwar, and Rishikesh to Dehradun.

Step 2: Dehradun to Sankri

Once you reach Dehradun, you can proceed to Sankri by road. The journey from Dehradun to Sankri takes approximately 8-10 hours by car. You have a few options:

Private Taxi: You can hire a private taxi or a cab from Dehradun to Sankri. This is the most convenient but relatively expensive option.

Shared Jeep/Bus: Shared jeeps and buses also operate from Dehradun to Sankri. You can inquire at the Dehradun Bus Stand or arrange a shared jeep from a local travel agency. These options are cost-effective but might be less comfortable.

Self-Drive: If you have your vehicle, you can drive from Dehradun to Sankri. The road conditions may vary, so it's essential to be prepared and check the route before your journey.

Cancellation policy


Life is unpredictable and we understand sometimes you have to cancel or change your trip dates and it is our endeavour to make it as easy possible for you. However, please understand we plan everything including guide fees, permits, accommodation and ration in advance. Therefore any cancellation means inconvenience and certain losses to the people involved in various stages of programme. Keeping that in mind, our cancellation charges are as below-

Cancellation prior to 30 days from start of the event: Get monetary refund with 15% of cancellation charges on trek fee.

Cancellation between 30 days and 15 days to the start of event: 50% on trek fee is non refundable and the remaining 50 % will be given as cash voucher which is valid for 1 year.

Cancellation less than 15 days to the start of event: No refund.

Note: The Himalayan Daredevils reserves the right to cancel a programme before departure in the event of logistical problems arriving due to natural calamities, strikes, wars on any other circumstances that makes the event inadvisable. In this case, 50% on trek fee is non refundable and the remaining 50 % will be given as cash voucher which is valid for 1 year.
