Overview


Maldaru Lake is a high altitude holy Lake located near Osla village in Har Ki Dun valley. It is considered as “Abode of Gods” and is worshiped by the villagers.

Maldaru Lake is 3 to 4 Km long glacial lake at an altitude of 4,200 meters located southeast of this trek come under Govind Wildlife Sanctuary National park in Uttarkashi district Uttarakhand .No doubt, the Himalayas have enchanting beauty, bracing climate and desirable soothing green meadow. So, what else can be better than spending some days here in the serenity!

It is considered sacred by the villagers and they worship its ecstatic waters. This Lake is accessible through both Supin and Tons valley and the lake water feeds Tons River.

Itinerary


    Himalayan Daredevils organizes transport for trekkers from Dehradun Railway Station in the morning which will leave for Sankri around 6:00 am to 7:00 am. Reach Mussoorie after an hour which is also known as “Queen of Hills”. People visit it heavily during vacations with their family and friends. After half an hour, stop at Kempty fall. Have breakfast there and witness beauty of the Himalayas. The break will be of maximum 1 hour. Ahead the peaks are visible and further you will come close to holy Yamuna River. If you want, then take a short break of 20 minutes and enjoy being around it. Reached hotel Mountain View in Sankri , freshen up and enjoy evening snacks in the open terrace with great views. You will be provided some details after which you can go for evening walk but be at the hotel for dinner. Enjoy delicious dinner and spend comfortable night in the mountains.

    After breakfast, get ready to drive towards Taluka it is a small village with some hotels and shops, the trek to Dhatmir village starts from here. The trail is surrounded by wildflowers especially wild irises and roses, trees present there are Deodar, Chestnut and Bamboos. Go ahead, cross a bridge over a stream and follow the trail. Pass through dense forest and a Supin river on the way is visible flowing through the woods below. Continue trekking and a village named Dhatmir comes into right sight. Overnight stay in camp / home stay option available.
    Today you will be trekking towards the last village of the trail, Dharkot and a wide meadow of Vishkhopri with abundance of Deodar. On today’s trek go through some divine picturesque places and have a glance of heart-warming views leaving you awe struck. Reach the campsite Vishkhopri, it is base of the valley where Maldaru Lake is situated. Pitch your tents at the massive meadow and feel lost amidst the beauty, have tasty and healthy food then retire for the night.
    Trek through the Batagor meadows which blooms with colorful flowers of geraniums, marigold and purple gentians. This part of the trek is the most picturesque on because of its idyllic setting. The trail is all green because of the foliage and trees, the snow-capped mountains are visible, cross an icy stream with a help of temporary wooden logs. After a short hike you will reach your campsite Rashi from where Manju Kanta Pass and the route which you took will also be clearly visible from here. Setup the tents at Rashi, relax for some time and sit outside praising the beauty of this place. After having food have comfortable stay in the tents.
    Today the trek is going to be the longest through boulder region and the path is steep so balance yourself properly on the trail. Ascend gradually over the loose rocks this trail will lead to Maldaru Lake. The Lake is wide (3-4 km) and only one sight of this sacred lake is enough to leave you speechless. Brahma Kamal and Phen Kamal are found here in abundance, these species are rare to find and are only found at high altitude places. Swargarohini peak 1, 2, 3, Black Peak and Bandarpunch peak can be clearly seen with other Himalayan peaks. Set your camp near this pristine lake and enjoy the scenic views offered by this place, have salubrious food and retire for the night.
    With the shining morning views of Bandarpunch and Swargarohini, leave this campsite Odari and head towards Devsu Bugyal. Start descending and the scenic views of snow covered mountains will accompany you. Trek through the dense forest and from this section, descend is going to be steep so be very careful. Devsu Bugyal is a wide meadow which is your campsite for today. Reach this Bugyal (meadow) and pitch your tents in serenity of this place. Relax here, after having food retire for the night in tents.
    From Devsu Bugyal descend all the way to reach Seema/Cheludgad then start trekking down to Taluka from where the trek started. Follow the same trail through rich forests and spot birds and Langurs on the way. Reach Taluka, vehicles will be arranged for you and then enjoy the 11 km drive to Sankri.
    Post breakfast leave for Dehradun and you can have lunch en route. Reach evening dehradun 6:00 pm.

What to carry


1.Trekking shoes: A good pair of trekking shoes is essential for a comfortable and safe trek. Look for shoes that are sturdy, provide good ankle support, and have a good grip on different types of terrain.

2. Backpack with rain cover (50-60): A backpack is necessary to carry all your gear. Make sure it's the right size for your trek, and comes with a rain cover to keep your belongings dry in case of rain.

3. Thermals (upper and lower): Thermals are lightweight and comfortable base layers that help regulate your body temperature in cold weather. Bring both upper and lower thermals to keep warm.

4. 3 T-shirts (advisable quick dry): Choose quick-drying T-shirts made from breathable and moisture-wicking materials. This will help keep you cool and dry during your trek.

5. 2 trek pants: Choose lightweight and comfortable trek pants that are easy to move in and can dry quickly if wet.

6. Jacket (-10 degree): A warm jacket is essential for cold weather. Choose a jacket that is waterproof and windproof, and provides good insulation.

7. Fleece or hood (2): Fleece jackets or hoodies are great mid-layer options to keep warm. Bring at least two, as they can also be used as an extra layer at night.

8. Sunglasses (UV protected): Protect your eyes from the sun's harmful UV rays with sunglasses that are designed for outdoor activities.

9. Sun cap: A sun cap or hat with a brim will protect your face and neck from the sun.

10. Hand gloves: Bring a pair of lightweight gloves to keep your hands warm and protected from wind and sunburn.

11. Woolen cap: A woolen cap will keep your head and ears warm at night or in cold weather.

12. Socks (3 pairs min): Bring at least three pairs of good quality socks that are moisture-wicking and provide good cushioning and support for your feet.

13. Headlamp: A headlamp will come in handy if you're hiking in low-light conditions or need to find your way in the dark.

14. Trekking pole (if needed): Trekking poles can help reduce strain on your legs and provide additional support on steep terrain.

15. Rain cover / poncho: A rain cover or poncho will keep you and your gear dry during unexpected rain showers.

16. Day pack (if you plan to offload your bag): If you plan to offload your backpack during the trek, bring a smaller day pack to carry essentials like water, snacks, and a first aid kit.

17. A toiletry kit: Bring a small kit with personal hygiene items, such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper.

18. Lunchbox, cup, spoon: If you plan to bring your own food, bring a lunchbox, cup, and spoon to carry and eat your meals.

19. 2 one liter bottles: Staying hydrated is crucial, so bring at least two one-liter bottles to carry water.

20. 2-3 plastic covers to keep your wet or used clothes: Plastic bags are useful for keeping wet or dirty clothes separate from the rest of your belongings. They can also be used to pack out any trash or waste you generate during the trek.

How to reach


Dehradun is well-connected by road, rail, and air. Depending on your location, you can choose one of these options to reach Dehradun:

By Air: You can take a flight to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is the nearest airport. From there, you can continue your journey to Sankri by road.

By Train: Dehradun has a railway station, and you can take a train to Dehradun Railway Station. Many trains connect major cities to Dehradun.

By Road: You can also reach Dehradun by road. Several buses operate from nearby cities like Delhi, Haridwar, and Rishikesh to Dehradun.

Step 2: Dehradun to Sankri

Once you reach Dehradun, you can proceed to Sankri by road. The journey from Dehradun to Sankri takes approximately 8-10 hours by car. You have a few options:

Private Taxi: You can hire a private taxi or a cab from Dehradun to Sankri. This is the most convenient but relatively expensive option.

Shared Jeep/Bus: Shared jeeps and buses also operate from Dehradun to Sankri. You can inquire at the Dehradun Bus Stand or arrange a shared jeep from a local travel agency. These options are cost-effective but might be less comfortable.

Self-Drive: If you have your vehicle, you can drive from Dehradun to Sankri. The road conditions may vary, so it's essential to be prepared and check the route before your journey.

Cancellation policy


Life is unpredictable and we understand sometimes you have to cancel or change your trip dates and it is our endeavour to make it as easy possible for you. However, please understand we plan everything including guide fees, permits, accommodation and ration in advance. Therefore any cancellation means inconvenience and certain losses to the people involved in various stages of programme. Keeping that in mind, our cancellation charges are as below-

Cancellation prior to 30 days from start of the event: Get monetary refund with 15% of cancellation charges on trek fee.

Cancellation between 30 days and 15 days to the start of event: 50% on trek fee is non refundable and the remaining 50 % will be given as cash voucher which is valid for 1 year.

Cancellation less than 15 days to the start of event: No refund.

Note: The Himalayan Daredevils reserves the right to cancel a programme before departure in the event of logistical problems arriving due to natural calamities, strikes, wars on any other circumstances that makes the event inadvisable. In this case, 50% on trek fee is non refundable and the remaining 50 % will be given as cash voucher which is valid for 1 year.
